Dr James Christensen

Subject: Philosophy, Politics

Department: Calleva Research Centre

Academic position: Calleva Centre Research Associate

Background

I have a BA from the University of Reading, an MA from the University of York, and a DPhil from the University of Oxford. After obtaining my doctorate, I worked at the University of Essex, first as a lecturer (assistant professor) and then as a senior lecturer (associate professor). My first book, Trade Justice (2017), is published by Oxford University Press, and my second book, Global Justice (2020), is published by Bloomsbury.

Research Interests

My research interests are in analytic social and political philosophy (including empirically-informed political theory), applied ethics, and normative ethics. Within these fields, I have worked on a variety of topics, including international trade, immigration, striking, and torture. My current work explores the normative dimensions of social punishment (cancel culture, public shaming, no-platforming, etc.).
