Dr Junjie Liu

Subject: Physics

Department: Physics

Academic position: Stipendiary Lecturer in Physics

Background:

After receiving his BSc in Physics (2007) from Tsinghua University and DPhil in condensed matter physics (2012) from the University of Florida, Junjie Liu moved to Oxford as a postdoctoral research assistant. In 2021, Junjie started his Royal Society University Research Fellowship in the department of Physics. Junjie joined Magdalen College as a stipendiary lecturer in 2022.

Research Interests:

Junjie’s research interests lie in the physics of molecular nanomagnets and their application in quantum spintronics. These molecules exhibit long quantum coherence times while the molecular spin properties may be tailored chemically for particular purposes, and in some cases, they have potential for applications in quantum information processing. His research investigates how to control and read out molecular quantum spins using electric fields (instead of the more conventional magnetic field couplings). This capability offers significant architectural advantages in developing scalable technological implementations. He also works on addressing the challenge of assembling molecular devices in a scalable way using DNA-nanotechnology-based approaches to molecular electronic device fabrication.
