Dr Joana McCloy

Subject: Politics

Department: Politics

Academic position: Special Lecturer in Politics

I am a DPhil candidate in Politics at the University of Oxford, where I am supervised by Professors Stathis Kalyvas and Scott Williamson. My research explores how civil and armed resistance movements emerge, evolve, and interact with state power. I am especially interested in the ideas that underpin nonviolence and in the trajectories and failures of resistance.

Before beginning my doctorate, I completed an MPhil in Comparative Government at Lady Margaret Hall, University of Oxford, and a BA in International Relations at Jacobs University Bremen.

At Oxford, I teach the International Relations core paper and Politics in the Middle East at Merton College and University College.
