Seb, Music
“Hi! My name is Seb Hill, I’m from Croydon and I’m going into my third year studying Music at Magdalen.
I love music and I sing in the college choir, play in the college big band, and was a part of the University Orchestra in my first year. This year I started playing squash using the college’s great facilities.”
What is the best thing about your course?
My tutors and the others on my course are definitely what makes it so enjoyable. Tutorial time learning from each other and talking about a wide range of topics is unique to Oxford and I feel like I learn so much from this small-group learning.
What is a day in the life like as a music student?
My day usually starts with a lecture, followed by a quick catch up with friends over lunch, before tackling some of my tutorial work for the week. This usually consists of two essays, some techniques work, and some preparation for a seminar. In the evenings I have choir rehearsal and evensong which is good because it gives me a set deadline to have my work completed by. Dinner is a good time to catch up with people, and even a chat over a pint in the college bar, before finishing off some work or going to a concert, or just relaxing with friends!
