Students with disabilities

Magdalen College is predominantly a collection of ancient, listed buildings and comprises accommodation built around staircases rather than corridors. Our limited stock of adapted accommodation is popular and there are few accessible ground floor bedrooms in close proximity to bathroom and kitchen facilities. Therefore, prospective students with specialised accommodation needs are advised to contact the Home Bursar or Tutor for Admissions before making an application.

1-7 Longwall Street contains 2 rooms with accessible en-suite bathrooms. The building also has an accessible kitchen and launderette. However, the pavement on this street is narrow and there is a large metal entrance gate to the building so it may not be suitable for some wheelchair users. This building is being renovated from July 2021 to May 2022 and will have improved facilities and access once completed.

For more information on accessibility with the University, including departmental buildings, please read the Access Guide on the main University website.

The College has a lift to the dining hall with a capacity of 600kg. The OKB is level, going from the Cloisters, and has plenty of room for wheelchairs. It is regretted however that the riverside terrace is not accessible being down three steps.
