Student life
The social life of students at Magdalen revolves around the Junior and Middle Common Rooms (JCR and MCR, respectively). Both Common Rooms have annually elected committees who represent the students at College level, organise entertainment and welfare events and help run student facilities.
The College has a fleet of 17 punts which are available for use from 1 May to mid-September. These are moored on the Cherwell opposite the Old Kitchen Bar terrace. Members pay a small annual charge for the use of these punts, £12.50 in 2015 (which can be opted-out on request).

Sports
Magdalen has some of the best sports facilities in the University, with excellent cricket, soccer, hockey and rugby pitches and tennis courts (hard and grass) all just a few minutes walk, via the water walks, from the main College. The Boathouse is situated on the River Thames (also known as the Isis as it flows through Oxford), just across Christ Church Meadow. Three superb squash courts were built in 1995 very close to the College centre, and are complete with showers, changing rooms and observation galleries. The cricket pavilion was renovated in 2013, and the boathouse in 2000. The all-weather pitch for hockey, lacrosse and five-a-side football was opened in 2014.
All members of the College have free use of the University gym and swimming pool at the Iffley Road sports complex, by virtue of a bulk membership purchased annually by the College.
The College supports both women’s and men’s teams, where appropriate, for rowing, football, hockey, rugby, cricket, tennis, athletics, swimming, squash, fives, netball, mixed lacrosse, basketball, badminton, pool — together with other sports if there is sufficient demand. The Captains and Secretaries of each of these clubs are elected annually.
The sports are financed by the Combined Clubs Fund (CCF) through grants to each club. The Combined Clubs Fund also assists towards the expenses of those who play in University teams (‘Blues’). Funds are allocated by the Senior Treasurer (a Fellow of the College) in conjunction with the MCR & JCR Sports Reps. and the Captains.
The Magdalen College Boat Club receives special additional support from the Friends of the MCBC, Old Members who take a special interest in the progress of the MCBC.
