Living here
The atmosphere at Magdalen (pronounced ‘Maudlen’ ever since its founding in 1458) is relaxed, but with unambiguous ambitions towards academic and extra-curricular success. The College community is friendly and welcoming, with the student body comprising a diverse range of backgrounds.
Many college rooms have superb views and meals are available either in the dining hall or the 14th century Old Kitchen Bar which acts as a social centre shared by everyone: students, tutors and College staff. We have our own professionally maintained sports grounds on site and an extremely well-equipped boat club. There are numerous opportunities for participation in music and drama and College societies cater for all interests; poetry, films, debating, and much more besides.
“With seemingly limitless opportunities, I would describe Magdalen as inspiring, engaging and unique.”
