Background

I am a socio-economic historian of the early medieval period, currently working on trade networks, production, mobility and circulation of technical knowledge. After my doctorate at Oxford, awarded in 2018, I held postdoctoral positions at the Institute of Historical Research in London as an Economic History Society Postan Fellow; the Université libre de Bruxelles with the support of the Fondation Wiener – Anspach; the DFG Kolleg-Forschungsgruppe ‘Migration and Mobility in Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages’ at Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen; and the Centre for Urban Network Evolutions (UrbNet) at Aarhus University. I was then elected Assistant Professor in Medieval History at Utrecht University in 2022, before returning to Oxford in 2026 to join Magdalen and the Faculty of History.
