Role in College
Claire is College Librarian, responsible for the management of the libraries which are at the heart of the college’s academic life. She also oversees the curation of Magdalen’s exceptionally rich historic collections (its archives, manuscripts, and rare books), and facilitates and advocates for their use in research and public engagement..
Background
Claire has an English Literature degree and an MA in Library and Information Studies from UCL. She has worked at the British Library where she was for over 10 years starting as a cataloguer and cataloguing trainer for curators working on the collections in London. Going on secondment to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport for a year, and returning to take up the role of Cultural Engagement Manager. Where she worked on projects and programmes to increase the British Library’s reach outside of London. She then moved to Arts Council England where she was Relationship Manager for Libraries, then Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals as Head of Sector Development, and most recently as Head of Library and Heritage at the Royal Borough of Kingston
