A meeting was held on 19 November 2011 in the Magdalen Auditorium to celebrate the life and career of Professor Dan Quillen who died on 30 April 2011. Dan was Waynflete Professor of Pure Mathematics at Magdalen from 1984–2006. He was awarded the Fields Medal, the world’s top prize in mathematics.
Talks at the meeting were given by Professor David Clary (President of Magdalen), Professor Michael Hopkins (Harvard University), Professor Graeme Segal (University of Oxford) and Sir Michael Atiyah (University of Edinburgh). Those attending included mathematicians from all over the world, friends and family of Dan, including his wife Jean.
