Access to the Old Library

Researchers are welcome to make enquiries and request images of items in our collections by emailing library@magd.ox.ac.uk. It is also possible to consult items from the Old Library by making an appointment in advance. Appointments can usually be made for Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9.30-12.30 and 14.00-16.30. Further information can be found in the sections below.

The library team can answer straightforward enquiries about the library collections, preferably by email (library@magd.ox.ac.uk) but also by post (Magdalen College, Oxford, OX1 4AU).

Readers are welcome to arrange to visit the Old Library in person. Please do so in advance by emailing library@magd.ox.ac.uk. Appointments are usually available Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9.30-12.30 and 14.00-16.30. Lift access is available by prior arrangement, so do get in touch to discuss your requirements.

We are able to provide images of items in our collection for private study and publication. Contact the library team with your request (library@magd.ox.ac.uk). You will first need to complete our reprographics form, and to reproduce any image from our collections you will need permission from the College.

If we do not already hold the images you are looking for, we can take up to 20 images in-house, free of charge. We outsource larger requests to a local professional photographer (fees are payable to the photographer by prior agreement).
