Access to the Old Library

Researchers are welcome to make enquiries and order images of our items. It is also possible to consult items in the Old Library by making an appointment in advance. Appointments can usually be made for Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 9.30-12.30 and 14.00-16.30. Further information can be found in the sections below.

The library team can answer straightforward enquiries about the library collections, preferably by email (library.desk@magd.ox.ac.uk) but also by post (Magdalen College, High Street, Oxford, OX1 4AU).

Readers are welcome to arrange to visit the Old Library in person. Please do so in advance by emailing library.desk@magd.ox.ac.uk. Appointments are usually available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 9.30-12.30 and 14.00-16.30. Lift access is available by prior arrangement, so do get in touch to discuss your requirements.

We are able to provide images of items in our collection for private study and publication. To reproduce any image from our collections, you will need permission from the College.

If we do not already hold the images you are looking for, we can take images of up to 20 folios/pages in-house, free of charge. We outsource larger requests to a local professional photographer (fees are payable to the photographer by prior agreement).

To make a request, please complete our reprographics form. Please ensure you have read and agree to our full reprographics policy before submitting the form.
