President's Welcome to Magdalen

Photograph of the President, Professor David Clary, FRSWelcome to the website of Magdalen College, which was recently redesigned in celebration of our 550th anniversary. In keeping with Magdalen's spirit, this new website is illustrated throughout with photographs and visual aids created exclusively by members of the College.

The College has great traditions going back more than half a millennium but also prides itself in its modern and progressive outlook. The top priority of the College is academic excellence and to that end applications are encouraged from all students with outstanding academic potential, irrespective of background or country of origin. The atmosphere in the College is warm and friendly.

We are committed to the tutorial system as a supportive and intellectually challenging method for undergraduate teaching. We teach most subjects offered at Oxford. For a College that has had nine Nobel Prizewinners amongst its members, it is no surprise that research at the top level is carried out by our Fellows and graduate students.

Magdalen has excellent facilities and participation by our students in extra-curricular activities is strongly encouraged. We have beautiful grounds and a superb choir. The accommodation offered to students is extensive and of a high standard. 

We are very keen to keep in touch with all members of the College and many activities are organised for our alumni. I hope you find these pages informative. If you have any questions, we will be very pleased to answer them.
