For UK donors, there are several schemes that enable you to maximise donations to Magdalen while also minimising your tax liabilities.
For donors outside the UK, more information on giving tax-efficiently, can be found here. Alternatively, please contact development.office@magd.ox.ac.uk.
Gift Aid
Gift Aid is a UK government scheme that enables Magdalen to claim tax relief on donations from UK taxpayers. For every £1 that you donate, we can claim an extra 25p of tax from HMRC. This means a £100 donation is worth £125.
If you haven’t done so already, you can complete an online Gift Aid Declaration Form here.
Taxpayers at the higher (40%) or additional (45%) tax rates benefit from additional income tax relief, and this is claimed through annual Self-Assessment returns.

Giving stocks and shares
Donating HMRC-recognised shares is one of the most tax-efficient ways of giving to Magdalen. You can get Income Tax relief (40% for higher rate taxpayers and 45% for additional rate taxpayers) on the value of the shares, as well as exemptions from Capital Gains Tax.
More information on donating stocks and shares can be found online here.
Give direct from your salary (Payroll giving)
If you are in the UK and your employer has a payroll giving scheme, such as CAF or Benevity, you can donate directly to Magdalen from your gross pay – before tax is deducted.
Many employers will also match the amount of money their employees give through payroll giving, which could double your donation.
If you would like more information on Payroll giving, please contact development.office@magd.ox.ac.uk
Legacies
Gifts to charity are exempt from Inheritance Tax (IHT) in the UK, and the government provides a further incentive when you leave 10% or more of your net estate to charity.
More information on leaving a legacy to Magdalen in your Will can be found online here, or please contact anna.norman@magd.ox.ac.uk to discuss legacy giving.
Tax-efficient giving – Europe

It enables donors – both corporations and individuals – resident in one of the participating countries to financially support charities across borders, while benefiting directly from the tax advantages provided for in the legislation of their country of residence.
