Open days and visits
Visiting Magdalen
Potential applicants and their families are very welcome to look around Magdalen on any day. Simply tell the porter on duty that you are a prospective applicant and you will be admitted free of charge and given an Alternative Prospectus. Please see our general visitor information, including opening hours.
Open Day
The Open Day is an opportunity for you to get a feel for the College, ask any questions you may have, and for you to meet our tutors and current undergraduate students. The Open Day is designed to help you to decide where you want to study and play no part whatsoever in our selection process.
Tours of the College will be run all day by our student ambassadors. There will also be a Student Life talk, an Admissions Q&A, a Demonstration Interview and the opportunity to ask our students, admissions and outreach team questions. No pre-booking is necessary to attend and our final programme of events will be released in 2020.
Dates for our Open Days in 2020 are July 1st, July 2nd and September 18th.
Our Open Day coincides with open day in many of the other colleges and University departments, which you may want to visit during the same day. For information on University department and other colleges’ open days please click here.
Accommodation and Meals
Magdalen’s Old Kitchen Bar will be open from 12 noon until 17:30 with light lunches and snacks available to purchase. Free accommodation is available, offered on a room-only basis, for one night’s stay for students travelling from outside a 70-mile radius of Oxford. We regret that we are unable to offer accommodation to any accompanying parents or friends. Accommodation must be pre-booked and is limited. Please note that for school group bookings, we can accept a maximum of 10 students with one accompanying teacher only. Meals (dinner and breakfast) will be available to purchase by visitors staying overnight in College accommodation.
The bookings for this will open at the beginning of April 2020.
Open Day Travel Expenses Reimbursement Scheme
If the cost of travelling to and from Oxford is a problem, then we may be able to reimburse some or all of the costs of travel. In order to be eligible, you must be a UK resident attending a UK state school or college and travelling by public transport. We are only able to reimburse travel costs for students.
To apply for this scheme, students must be:
- currently eligible for Free School Meals;
- and/or in local authority care (or previously in local authority care);
- and/or have another reason why it would be difficult to pay for travel to attend an Open Day in Oxford.
The applications for this will open at the beginning of April 2020.
