Hampton is a postdoctoral researcher in demography, specialising in the social and demographic impacts of the 1918 influenza pandemic. After submitting his PhD in demography and economic history at the London School of Economics in summer 2026, he joined Magdalen College to serve as the Assistant Director of the Calleva Research Centre, Magdalen’s interdisciplinarity centre of research excellence. Prior his PhD, he completed a BA in Human Sciences and an MPhil in Sociology and Demography at the University of Oxford.

Beyond Magdalen, he is affiliated with Oxford’s Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science and contributes tutorial and class teaching to the demography module of the BA Human Sciences course. Beyond Oxford, he serves on the Board of the Association of Young Historical Demographers and the Management Committee of the EU-funded COST Action network for historical demographers, the GreatLeap.
