Magdalen and the Great War Open Day

On Friday (7th November) we held our termly Old Library Open Day, a chance to visit our magnificent historic library and see some interesting items from our collections. This term the exhibition was on World War One, with a wide selection of items from the Archives on display, including photographs of Magdalen Members before and during the war, letters to and from President Warren, ephemera from college events held during the war, items related to the erection and dismantling of our World War One Memorial, and our near-unique copies of the Hydra (the magazine of Craiglockhart hospital, featuring such contributors as Sassoon and Owen, edited by a Magdalen Alumnus).

The Old Library was be open from 12 midday to 2pm and from 4pm to 6pm, with entry via the Summer Common Room on Cloisters Staircase III. There were be library & archives staff on hand throughout these times to talk to you about the exhibition and our collections.
