Members of the Benefactor Society and President’s Circle are invited to a private tour of Knole, kindly hosted by Robert Sackville-West (1976). Originally built as an archbishop’s palace, Knole passed through royalty to the Sackville family, who still live there today.
The event includes a tour of the private quarters of 15th Century Knole House in Sevenoaks, Kent; the childhood home of Vita Sackville-West and inspiration for Virginia Woolf’s novel, Orlando. The tour will include rarely seen rooms, normally closed to the public – including the attics; some of the private apartments, including the Chapel, the Library, the Poets’ Parlour, the Colonnade; and the gardens.
This event is exclusively for members of the Benefactor Society and President’s Circle. Members are welcome to bring a guest.
Please find the programme below:
13:00 – 14:30 | 90 minute tour of the private quarters
14:30 onwards | Post-tour refreshments (tea, cake and bubbles) and if the weather is good, the opportunity to explore the private gardens
The public areas of Knole open at 11am; guests are welcome to arrive from then to explore and are welcome to have lunch in the café before the tour. Parking is available on site.
Please RSVP directly to the Alumni Office including any access requirements.
