I have the privilege of being President of Magdalen at one of the most exciting times in the College’s history. We have the opportunity to replace the long-unloved Waynflete Building with a beautiful, comfortable, and sustainable new quad for second- and third-year undergraduates, designed to make the most of its riverside setting and to house our freshers together in the heart of the College.
The redevelopment of the Waynflete Building on the eastern side of the water meadow and other planned developments, will enhance the quality of the community at Magdalen for generations to come.
Magdalen will be able to boast state-of-the-art riverside accommodation, social and teaching spaces, connected by one of the loveliest rural landscapes in Oxfordshire.
Our water meadow has long been the jewel in Magdalen’s crown, setting it apart from other colleges and academic institutions

Our water meadow has long been the jewel in Magdalen’s crown, setting it apart from other colleges and academic institutions, and providing intellectual and creative inspiration and solace. Nowhere else is it possible to enjoy the illusion of being deep in the countryside whilst within College walls and only moments away from the bustle of central Oxford. Addison’s Walk and the branches of the Cherwell that flow through the College are home to kingfishers, herons, otters, badgers and wild deer, while the meadow itself is filled with wild flowers, including our world-famous snake’s head fritillary display every spring.
Our vision is for a single interconnected campus linked by footbridges and pathways around the meadow, with educational and social spaces at its heart. We look forward to discussing the philanthropic opportunities with you, and exploring how together we can make this vision a reality.
