Waynflete Update

A wide-angle, high-angle shot of the Waynflete Quad construction site under a clear blue sky. Two orange Hitachi excavators sit on mounds of earth in the centre of the site. In the foreground, several steel reinforcement cages and bundles of rebar are laid out on the dirt. A construction worker in a high-visibility vest and white hard hat stands near a surveying instrument. The perimeter of the site is lined with wooden fencing and metal barriers, with residential buildings and green trees visible in the background.

It might not look as though much has changed on the ground at the site of the new Waynflete Quad, but there’s been a lot going on underneath the surface.

Our contractors have installed multiple concrete piles for the foundations to support the structure. These transfer the weight of the building down to more stable soil. The process involves drilling deep holes and inserting steel reinforcement cages which are then filled with concrete to create solid columns. The deepest of these reach down 18m.

In three to four weeks, the building will begin to rise out of the ground. A crane is due to arrive before the end of the month to help with the heavy lifting.

From then, the building will go up in stages. The front section will rise first, with the rest following shortly after, but it won’t be until the summer that the full structure is visible from the road.

To keep things running smoothly, our contractors have introduced a streamlined delivery process. Individual subcontractors now manage their own arrivals through an online booking system to make organising the site easier and reduce local congestion.

Plus, a new turnstile has been installed at the entrance, ensuring every person on site is verified and accounted for. This will also help to manage deliveries on time without unnecessary disruption.

There’s much to look forward to over the coming weeks. Updates will follow as the project reaches its next milestones.
