There has been exciting progress at the new Waynflete Quad. The development is now reaching the point where you begin to get a sense of the scale of the finished buildings and what the space will feel like.
Building A, which includes the main entrance, is expected to reach its full five-storey height in around a month. Building B, the Tower, is even closer, with completion expected in the next two weeks, while Building C’s structure is already finished.
Once the structures are complete, scaffolding will return to the site, ready for the installation of the SFS frames from mid-October. Windows will follow the next month – just in time for the bad weather!
The St Clement’s buildings have undergone a lot of work in recent months, and once the scaffolding is up, the team will start work on renewing the roofs.
The most striking change, however, is how clearly the new Quad can now be understood as a place. Even though it is still very much a building site, you can begin to see how the different spaces will connect.
Walking through what will become the main entrance across the cloister, or making your way down to the multi-purpose room overlooking the river, you can’t help but get excited about what a brilliant asset the Waynflete Quad will be to College.
