Work on Magdalen’s Riverside Project is now well underway.
Over the summer and during Trinity Term, teams worked on the east side of Cloisters and on the ground between the Gothics, home of the public toilets, clearing the way for the new café that will replace the Old Kitchen Bar (OKB) and become a new hub for College life. With the start of Michaelmas Term, construction has properly begun and the OKB has now closed. In its place, the College has opened a temporary bar on New Buildings Lawn.

By day, it serves coffee, cakes, sandwiches and salads, with a comfortable seating area for studying, catching up or simply taking a break. In the evenings it becomes the College bar.
And the students have wasted no time making it their own. Throughout Freshers’ Week it hosted craft meetups, pub quizzes and other events, and it has already become a focal point for student activity. The temporary bar will remain in place until the new College bar is completed.
