Photo competition winners

17 July 2024

Thank you to everyone who entered this year’s photo competition. The standard of work was particularly strong, with more entries than ever before. After much deliberation, the winners are:

First prize
Roberto Agostino

The judges loved Roberto’s collection of photographs, particularly his work in black and white. They all agreed that this beautiful shot of May Morning (below) with the gathering crowds, and the statue standing sentinel, was the standout shot of the entire competition. Well done, Roberto.

Second prize
Lesley Constantinou

The judges admired the composition and warm colour palette of this photograph of a fantastic fox walking through St Swithun’s Quad. A worthy runner-up.

Commendation
Charlotte Rose

Another fox, but this time in Bat Willow Meadow. The framing and the lush green setting were noted by the judges as well as the interaction between the photographer and the very nonchalant fox.

Commendation
Maya Herz

It was this slightly disconcerting photograph from Maya’s collection that really grabbed the attention of the judges. The unidentified man in the coat, the veil, and the almost empty room create an unusual tension.

Commendation
Carol Nash

What’s not to like about this beautiful shot of a doe peering in through a window? Carol was in the exactly right place at exactly the right time.

Commendation
Jian Hui Mo

The judges liked a number of photographs in Jian’s collection, including this shot of the Great Tower in complimentary orange and blue.

Commendation
Joanna Burnett

Another College visitor captured perfectly. This photograph of a cheeky squirrel scampering through Cloisters raised a smile from all the judges – just one of a set of lovely shots from Joanna.
