New Al Saud Professor and Magdalen Fellow

Professor Pascal Menoret has been appointed as the new Khalid bin Abdullah al Saud Professor for the Study of the Contemporary Arab World and a Fellow of Magdalen College. 

Pascal Menoret is the Renée and Lester Crown Professor of Modern Middle East Studies at Brandeis University. He is currently on leave from Brandeis University and he is the director of the Center for Economic, Legal, and Social Studies and Documentation in Cairo (CEDEJ). 

He also taught at Princeton University and New York University Abu Dhabi. Pascal studied Philosophy at the University of Provence and Middle East Studies at the Institut des Langues et Civilisations Orientales in Paris. He completed his PhD in History in 2008 from the University of Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne).

He is the author of four books on Saudi Arabia, including The Saudi Enigma: A HistoryL’Arabie, des routes de l’encens à l’ère du pétroleJoyriding in Riyadh: Oil, Urbanism and Road Revolt, and Graveyard of Clerics: Everyday Activism in Saudi Arabia
