Magdalen projects win Oxford Preservation Awards

08 November 2024

Two projects recently carried out at Magdalen College have been recognised in the prestigious Oxford Preservation Trust awards.

The new Chapel organ won a Small Project award. Built by the highly regarded Herman Eule Orgelbau of Bautzen in Germany, it is the first Eule organ of its kind to have been built in the UK for almost 100 years.  The console is on the south side of the gallery and the case is based on the beautiful design of the previous organ by Julian Bicknell.

Restoration work on the Chapel doorway also won a Small Project award. The masonry was cleaned, repaired, a shelter-coat added, and a gargoyle was replaced, all by Alex Wenham a craftsman who has done numerous restorations jobs at College.
