The College is delighted to announce the appointment of the Reverend Dr Henry Hope as Dean of Divinity. Henry will take up the role on 21 February 2027.
Henry is currently Vicar of All Saints Church in Leek and St Edward the Confessor Church in Cheddleton, having previously served as Curate at Hexham Abbey. Prior to ordination, he worked as a musicologist specialising in twelfth- and thirteenth-century song repertoires. Henry is no stranger to Magdalen College, having taught undergraduates in Music as a lecturer here between 2013 and 2016
Henry said, “I’m hugely excited about the prospect of joining the community at Magdalen. The role of the Dean of Divinity is grounded firmly at the heart of the College community, and I look forward to becoming a member of the College’s diverse, vibrant family, walking alongside students, staff and academic colleagues through the joys and challenges of Oxford life: listening to stories, offering words of encouragement and hope, laughing, crying and celebrating together.
“It will also be a tremendous joy to join Magdalen’s Chapel community as it prepares to welcome its first girl choristers in September 2027 and continues the rich tradition of Spirit-filled choral worship offered in this place over the centuries.”
We look forward very much to welcoming Henry to Magdalen as Dean of Divinity next year.
