Magdalen alumna Professor Emily Shuckburgh (1991) has been appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in recognition of her outstanding contributions to climate science and its public communication.

Professor Shuckburgh is a leading climate scientist and communicator, renowned for her work bridging rigorous research with real-world impact. She currently leads Cambridge Zero, the University of Cambridge’s major climate initiative driving solutions for a sustainable future.

“I am deeply honoured to accept this recognition,” She said. “It is a reflection of the collective efforts of many scientists, communicators, educators, and advocates who strive every day to make climate science accurate, accessible and actionable at a time when honesty, clarity and urgency are more important than ever”

In addition to her leadership role, she is Professor of Environmental Data Science at the University’s Department of Computer Science and Technology. Her research focuses on applying artificial intelligence to climate science, exploring new tools for understanding and mitigating environmental risks.
