The Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT) has announced the first cohort of Ellison Scholars, and we are pleased to share that five of the 26 exceptional candidates will begin their studies here at Magdalen in October 2025, subject to meeting the conditions of their Oxford offer.
EIT’s mission is to translate scientific and technological breakthroughs into real world benefit for society’s most enduring problems. The Ellison Scholars programme plays a crucial role in this, by nurturing the next generation of global innovators and leaders, who will work together with EIT to generate effective solutions.
The Scholars will receive comprehensive funding, including full tuition, living expenses, and research support. They will also engage in projects at EIT’s state-of-the-art Oxford campus which is being built on land which forms part of Magdalen’s majority-owned The Oxford Science Park. The facility, which is scheduled for completion in 2027, will house cutting-edge laboratories for robotics, proteomic analysis, and genomic sequencing, along with advanced cloud-controlled greenhouses and a 16,000-node NVIDIA H100 GPU supercluster for AI research.
The Scholars will work alongside world-renowned experts on practical solutions across EIT’s four Humane Endeavours: Health and Medical Science, Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture, Climate Change and Clean Energy, and Government Innovation in Era of AI.
EIT was founded by Larry Ellison and Dr David Agus as a research and development centre for cancer, healthcare, and global public health. Today, EIT has four key areas of focus: medical science and healthcare, food security and sustainable agriculture, clean energy and climate change, and government policy and economics.
Professor Sir John Bell FRS, Emeritus Fellow of Magdalen, is the President of EIT. Sir John served as Regius Professor of Medicine at the University of Oxford from 2002 to 2024 and was made a Knight Grand Cross (GBE) for his services to medicine, medical research and the UK life science industry in the New Years Honours 2015.
