Huge congratulations to Omid V. Ebrahimi, Senior Demy at Magdalen, who has been honoured with an Early Career Excellent Teacher Award from the University of Oxford’s Medical Sciences Division. This prestigious award recognises staff who have made an “exceptional” and “highly innovative” contribution to teaching within their first five years.

The award highlights Omid’s passion for engaging and informative teaching that promotes students’ interest in their subject. This commitment to mentorship is a cornerstone of his work, alongside his world-leading research as the Principal Investigator of the Oxford EDGE Lab. There, he leads the Critical Incidents and Psychological Adaptation (CIPA) study, a major longitudinal investigation into the development of common mental health disorders.

Omid’s research tackles a question many of us have felt: how do major global events like pandemics, climate change, or economic uncertainty actually impact our mental health? His work looks for the specific triggers and pathways that can lead to anxiety and depression. This is best seen in his CIPA study, a massive 15-year investigation that will follow over 20,000 people to find the exact links between what’s happening in the world and what’s happening in our heads.

In a post celebrating the news, Omid demonstrated his characteristic humility and student-focused approach. “The real credit goes to the students,” he wrote. “Teaching such talented minds is a privilege.”

We are incredibly proud to have Omid as part of our community and congratulate him on this outstanding and well-deserved achievement.
