We’re so proud to announce that three members of the Magdalen College community have been recognised in the New Years Honours list. Those on the list have been recognised for being dedicated community champions, role models in sport, pioneers in the arts and sciences, passionate health workers, and supporters of young people, and much more.
Magdalen alumna Anna Lapwood, a former Organ Scholar and now celebrated Organist, Conductor & Broadcaster was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to music. She is currently the Director of Music at Pembroke College, Cambridge and is still the youngest ever person to hold that position at any Oxford or Cambridge College.
Professor Roger Heath-Brown, an Emeritus Fellow at Magdalen, has been awarded an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his profound contributions to mathematics. His work in the field of analytic number theory has been instrumental within the field, from proving the Kummer Conjecture to his pioneering work on the ‘determinant method’.
Former Junior Research Fellow Professor Ronald Hutton was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for exceptional services to history. He specialises in specialises in early modern Britain, British folklore, pre-Christian religion and Contemporary Paganism, is the author of 14 books on various subjects throughout history, and is currently the commissioner of British Heritage.
