Professor Christian Rupprecht is one of eleven researchers at the University of Oxford who have been selected to receive prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grants, each worth €1.5 million for a period of up to five years.

His project aims to make data an active part of the computer vision model training process, using generative models to help overcome the labelling barrier.

“The largest computer vision models are now trained on huge amounts of images from across the internet. But preparing this data is costly,” explained Christian. “This shortage of usable data has become a bottleneck to progress.”

“I am honored to receive the ERC Starting Grant, which will allow us to explore new frontiers in Computer Vision,” said Christian. “This is a wonderful recognition of my team’s ongoing efforts and would not have been possible without their hard work and dedication. With the grant, I will be able to move faster and expand the team and infrastructure.”
