Recent work on Magdalen College’s historic Bodley and Garner Gate has been awarded a plaque in the Building Conservation category of the Oxford Preservation Trust Awards.
The project involved restoring weathered stone grotesques and statuary, treating deathwatch beetle in the wooden gates, and repairing and adapting the historic metalwork for safe modern use.
The work brought together a team of specialist craftspeople, including stone carver Alex Wenham, who has worked on many projects across the College.
The award recognises the quality of the craftsmanship and the care taken to preserve this beautiful gate for future generations.
A huge congratulations to everyone involved, especially Robert Langley and Freya Morris from our Estates team.
