Organist, conductor, broadcaster, and Magdalen alumna Anna Lapwood (2013) has been appointed the first official Organist of the Royal Albert Hall.
In her new role, Anna aims to increase national access to organ and choral music. She will also hold open sessions, and appoint and support the Royal Albert Hall’s first Organ Scholar.
Anna Lapwood was the first female Organ Scholar at Magdalen and the youngest person to become a Director of Music at an Oxford or Cambridge college (Pembroke, Cambridge). She was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to music in 2024 and was named one of The Sunday Times’s most powerful people under 30 in the UK last month.
