On 20 November, we were delighted to welcome alumnus Michael Beloff KC (1960) back to College.
Michael entertained and informed a packed President’s Lodgings over dessert in conversation with the President.
He is widely known as the ‘Godfather of Sports Law’ and has had a long and distinguished career as a barrister, arbitrator, and judge, with involvement in many of the most high-profile sporting cases.
Michael was recently recognised with a plaque in the Oxford Union to mark over sixty years since full membership was granted to women, following a motion he proposed. This decision came after a long campaign for gender inclusion within the Union, led most notably by Michael’s late father, Max Beloff, who was also a Senior Demy of Magdalen. Read more about the commemorative plaque.
It is always a pleasure to welcome members of the Magdalen community back to College, and it was especially heart-warming to see the next generation of Magdalen lawyers inspired by not one but two generations of successful Magdalen barristers.
