Sometimes disappointment is just redirection. If you’ve ever didn’t get the results you were hoping for today, try to remember: results day is just ONE DAY of your life.

All A level results really do is show you how much you knew about a given topic at one point in your life.

If it didn’t go to plan this morning, you can try again, let the redirection take you somewhere you never imagined, or grow and learn and do things you haven’t even discovered you can do yet.

This isn’t the end. It’s only the beginning!

On this blisteringly hot day we went on a trip to the archives to have a look at this piece of Magdalen’s history that was discovered behind the panelling in the JCR during renovations!

It’s a programme for a play out on in the JCR in November 1837 by the Magdalen College Dramatic Society, called: “the Gamester’s Curse, or the Wreck, the Miser, and the Mines”. Set in Cornwall.

There are so many things we have in the archives that people found by accident. Including an 18th century letter someone found lodged behind the seats in a second hand Ford Fiesta.

Thanks to Magdalen maths second-year Caitlyn for walking us through one of the first ever instances of humans using maths. Many historians believe the first use of maths was to track menstrual cycles - which is kind of amazing when you think about it! From prehistoric women in the DR Congo to @fryrsquared, women have been doing maths for a VERY long time.
