Join us for an evening with Artist in Residence Francis Hamel(1982) who will be discussing his latest publication, The Oxford Paintings.
Francis will share insights into this stunning collection, which spans his work from 2002, 2012, and 2024. The book pairs over 100 exquisite paintings and drawings of Oxford with a thoughtfully curated selection of writings about the city, offering a rare and immersive exploration of its timeless charm. Represented by the renowned John Martin Gallery in London’s Albemarle Street since 1995, Francis Hamel invites you to delve into the rich artistry that make The Oxford Paintings a masterpiece.
“This is the perfect Oxford book, exquisitely laid out in what you might call the perfect Oxford manner. With, apparently, effortless ease and scintillating skill Francis Hamel captures corners and atmospheres of the city, while keeping up a light and deliciously spiced accompaniment of gossip, anecdote and history. Anybody with the least interest in the town, the university and what they represent will fall on this like a lion on an antelope. Every page a joy.”
Stephen Fry, actor and writer.
The interview includes a Q&A and reception with an opportunity to buy the book. You are welcome to bring a guest.
