Compliance status

This website is not compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard. The non-compliances and exemptions are listed below.

Non-compliances:

Exemptions:

Non-accessible content

We know some parts of this website aren’t fully accessible.

A lot of the text has not been written with web accessibility in mind, this includes lack of plain English, marking up content semantically for screen readers and missing helpful link text. Most images don’t have text alternatives and video on the site isn’t optimised for accessibility.

In many cases it’s not possible to reliably navigate the site with your keyboard and the content of the site doesn’t adapt well to varying screen sizes making it difficult to read the site in some browsers. These factors and others also mean that the site has not been optimised for screen readers.

The colours of the site and the site typography have not been chosen with accessibility in mind.

We are conducting tests of the website so we can highlight other accessibility issues in this statement. If you find a page with an accessibility issue, not mentioned here or in our identified non-compliances statement, please email webmaster@magd.ox.ac.uk so we can investigate.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and forms published as Word documents. By spring 2021, we plan to either fix these or replace them with accessible HTML pages.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We are currently in the process of rebuilding the site in order to meet the WCAG 2.1 AA standard. We expect the new website to be live by spring 2021.
