Scholarships and Awards (2025 entry, 2026 currently being reviewed)

Duration: Initially one year, with possible renewal.
Eligibility: For Commonwealth citizen graduates reading Chemistry.
Value: The equivalent of a full maintenance award at the UKRI minimum level, tenable up to three years.
Remarks: This studentship may not be awarded every year (it will be offered in the 2024/25 admissions round). There is no separate application process and this award may be offered in conjunction with another University award, such as a Clarendon Fund scholarship.

Duration: Initially one year, renewable after review.
Eligibility: Restricted to graduate students who are already studying at Magdalen.
Value: Assessed according to individual circumstances.
Remarks: A variety of maintenance grants or loans to help graduate students who experience unforeseen need. Application is made via an internal College application form.

Duration: Period of fee liability.
Eligibility: Students ordinarily resident in the EEA or Switzerland.
Value: 100% of the College and University tuition fees, and a grant for living expenses at the UKRI minimum level.
Remarks: This studentship may not be awarded every year (it will not be awarded in the 2024/25 admissions round). Awarded to an eligible candidate who has applied by the relevant January deadline for a new DPhil at Oxford in Engineering, specialising in Biomedical Engineering. There is no separate application process.

 

Duration: Period of fee liability.
Eligibility: Students who are ordinary residents of Hong Kong and are citizens of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Candidates should be intending to return to Hong Kong or the PRC on completion of their studies.
Value: The scholarship covers course fees and provides a grant for living costs.
Remarks: One full scholarship is available each year for students studying either the Bachelor of Civil Law or an MSc with the Department of Politics & International Relations. All eligible applicants for the relevant courses will be considered for the scholarship, regardless of which college (if any) is stated as their preference on the graduate application form – no separate application for the scholarship or mention of the scholarship in an application is necessary. Successful applicants will, if necessary, be transferred to Magdalen College in order to take up the scholarship.

The scholarship will alternate between Law and Politics. For applications for study in the 2026-27 academic year, the scholarship will be allocated, in the first instance, to Politics. For applications for study in the 2027-28 academic year, it will be allocated to Law.

Duration: Period of fee liability.
Eligibility: One full scholarship is available for applicants who are applying to any full-time graduate course in the department of Law within the range accepted by Magdalen College. To check whether the course you are planning to apply for is accepted by Magdalen College, please review the relevant Course page. Preference will be given to any students studying towards the Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL).
Value: The scholarship covers course fees and provides a grant for living costs. Awards are made for the full duration of your fee liability for the agreed course.
Remarks: The scholarship is only tenable at Magdalen College. All eligible applicants will be considered for the scholarship, regardless of which college (if any) you state as your preference on the graduate application form. However, successful applicants will be transferred to Magdalen College in order to take up the scholarship.

Eligibility: Students ordinarily resident in the UK for at least five years prior to the start of the course.
Value: 100% of course fees, and a grant for living costs (at the UKRI minimum level)
Remarks: Awarded to eligible candidates who have applied by the relevant January deadline for a new DPhil at Oxford. For entry in October 2025, two or three scholarships will be available. There is no separate application process.

Value: 100% of course fees, and a grant for living costs at the UKRI minimum level.
Remarks: These studentships will not be awarded in the 2024/25 admissions round.

Remarks: Each year three full scholarships are available for students studying the Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) at the Faculty of Law. All eligible applicants will be considered for the scholarship, regardless of which college (if any) is stated as their preference on the graduate application form – no separate application for the scholarship or mention of the scholarship in an application is necessary. Successful applicants will, if necessary, be transferred to Magdalen College in order to take up the scholarship.
