International Women’s Day

14th March 2017

Magdalen College marked International Women’s Day on 8 March, a day that celebrates and promotes action towards achieving the global goal of gender parity.

All members of the College were invited to attended a reception hosted by Siân Pooley, the Tutor for Women Students and for Equal Opportunities, at which Rebecca Bates, a third year undergraduate historian, shared some of the findings of her recent research into the experiences of the first generation of female students at Magdalen who came up between 1979-84. Rebecca’s important research, and the information this group of Magdalen alumni provided her with, highlighted how far the College has progressed to becoming the diverse and inclusive community it is today and gave current College members an opportunity to reflect, celebrate, and promote gender equality at Magdalen and beyond.
