Background
Chris Ballance received an MPhys in Physics from Somerville College, Oxford in 2010. He went on to start his DPhil at Christ Church, and finished his DPhil at Hertford College on a Senior Scholarship. Chris joined Magdalen College as a Fellow by Examination in 2015.
Research
Chris’ research interests lie in the emerging field of experimental quantum computation. A quantum computer promises the ability to solve problems that would be too complex for any ordinary computer by exploiting the laws of quantum mechanics.
His work focusses on using trapped atomic ions to develop the building blocks of such a quantum computer.
