MCR Sports Shed

The MCR has its own sports shed at Hollywell Ford, where we house communal sports equiptment.  While we our updating our collection, we currently have a fun cricket set as well as outdoor table tennis tables.  We're also open to expanding our collection depending on MCR interest, so contact the MCR sports rep for any suggestions / queries.

Hollywell Ford Squash Courts

The College Squash Courts are located adjacent to the Hollywell Ford graduate complex.  The facility has three courts, for which keys and racquets can be borrowed from the Porters' Lodge. Every term, a squash ladder is organized for both competitive and non-competitive players (depending on interest).  For more information or to sign up for the ladder, contact the MCR Sports' Rep.

Magdalen College own approximately 15 punts, which can be taken out by graduate students from Trinity term throughout the summer. Punts can be reserved in the Porters' Lodge, and taken out along the Cherwell by Addison's walk.

Magdalen College Boat Club

Magdalen College Boat Club (MCBC) has a long history of graduate participation in both novice and advanced crews, and we have an excellent track record in the two major regattas of the year: Torpids and Summer Eights.
At Magdalen, we are very lucky to have a highly supportive boat club for the exciting Oxbridge bumps' racing. This year (2008) our men's first boat (M1) took the Headship in Torpids (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torpids) for the first time many decades and there is a lot of determination to stay there. M1 was also head of the river in Summer Eights for four consecutive years between 2004-2007 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eights_Week) The second men's boat is the second highest M2 on the river in Torpids and third in Eights. The women at Magdalen are also very competitive, winning blades in 2008 in the 1st division of Torpids and bumping up one place in Eights.
Oxbridge rowing is somewhat intoxicating and the statistics are something like 1-in-4 students rows at some stage of their study. With this in mind, Magdalen College Boat Club (MCBC) has an excellent inclusive program that caters for experienced rowers right through to those who have never stepped into a boat before coming up. In fact, five of the eight rowers in M2 were novices and many of M1 had come through MCBC as novices in previous years.
MCBC is also very lucky to hold an exceptional collection of boats. There are three Empacher VIII's (M1, M2 and W1), two Janousek VIII's (M3,W2) and a host of smaller boats including several Empacher (4+, 4-, 2- and 1x) and Janousek (4+, 2-) boats.

Rowing at Magdalen truly has something to offer everyone and a spirit that will certainly leave you hooked!   For more information about crew at Magdalen, visit the MCBC home page: http://www.magdalenboatclub.com/
