Academic Events

Magdalen College celebrates its academic diversity with a variety of lectures throughout term time; this year in particular there have been a number of Symposia on subjects such as Molecular Biology, Music, and Magdalen's Nobel Laureates, to commemorate the 550th anniversary of College.  The MCR is also responsible for encouraging academic dialogue among students and fellows of college through the MCR/SCR research forum.

MCR/SCR Research Forum

The Magdalen Research Forum was established as a joint initiaive between the SCR and MCR. The main objectives of the Research Forum are to enable those undertaking research to share their findings and get experience in speaking to a general audience, to enable members of college to hear about research done by other members, and thus for the MCR to contribute to the lives of graduates in a meaningful academic way.  It also faciliates closer relationships between College Fellows and graduate students.

Two to three seminars are held each term, with one SCR and one MCR member presenting at each seminar.  The best MCR speaker of the year is awarded the Gibbon Prize, to be announced at the MCR banquet.
