His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex visited Magdalen College recently during a tour of the UKs real tennis courts.
The aim of the tour is to raise money for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) programme, of which he is a trustee, and to engage with a new generation of young people.
After a game at the nearby University of Oxford court, a relaxed Prince Edward, still in his tennis whites, met Sir David and Lady Clary, and ten Magdalen students who had taken part in the DofE programme.
Prince Edward showed a keen interest in the students’ experience of the DofE scheme, and asked about their time at Magdalen over tea and sandwiches in the President’s Lodgings.
The Earl of Wessex later attended a DofE fundraising event in Hall.
The DofE scheme is a youth awards programme founded by Prince Edward’s father Prince Philip in 1956. It aims to builds skills through volunteering, expedition and sport.
