Professor Constantin Coussios Develops Device to Keep Liver Alive Outside Body

Constantin Coussios, Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Fellow of Magdalen, has helped to develop OrganOx, a device that keeps livers alive outside of the body, by keeping them at body temperature and circulating red blood cells through them that deliver nutrients and oxygen. In what has been called a medical first, OrganOx can keep a liver healthy outside the body for up to 24 hours.
