New boat christened
9th May 2018
The new Women’s First Boat was christened Valiant during a naming ceremony held in College last week.
Jed Wrigley (1985), a long-time supporter of both the College and the MCBC, and a former College rower, officially named the boat and made the toast.
He was joined by his wife, Diana Wrigley, Professor Sir David Clary, Lady Heather Clary, members of the Women’s First Boat, and Annamarie Phelps, CBE, Vice-President of the British Olympic Association, and former Chairman of British Rowing.
The name was chosen by Maria Zuberek, Women’s Rowing Captain, and her teammates. It is named after Queen Lucy the Valiant from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis (Fellow 1925-1954, Honorary Fellow 1955).
We wish the rowers the very best of luck in the Summer Eights at the end of the month. I’m sure the new boat will ensure they make a valiant effort!
