Magdalen DPhil student Thais Roque was recognised at the first Vice-Chancellor’s Diversity Awards held earlier this month.

Thais won the Individual Champion/Role Model award in the student category for her work with refugee students at Oxford.

“Because my DPhil in Biomedical Engineering was made possible by the generous donation of alumni and Oxford University, I feel very strongly about giving back to its diverse, wide-reaching community,” explained Thais.

She was presented with her award by June Sarpong MBE at a ceremony held at Worcester College earlier this month.

The awards will be held every two years, and aim to promote equality and diversity by celebrating inspiring people and projects.
