First Iftar held at College

4th July 2018

Over 20 people attended an Iftar hosted by Magdalen President Professor Clary.

Abdullah Khan (2017) who attended the event provided this short write-up:

“Ramadan is a Holy Month in the Islamic calendar during which Muslims fast from dawn to sunset (no food or water). The break of the fast is marked by a (usually collective) meal called Iftar.

“In the spirit of inclusivity, Magdalen College hosted its first ever Iftar on the 8th of June, 2018, bringing together members of the College over a meal in the President’s Lodgings.

“On behalf of the Muslim community at Magdalen, I would like to thank the President and Lady Clary for hosting a lovely meal and for their amazing hospitality.

“I am also very excited to hear that the Presidential Iftar will be added as a regular to the Magdalen calendar!”
