The College is sad to announce that H.I.H. Prince Tomohito of Mikasa, cousin of the Emperor of Japan, passed away on 6 June 2012.
He was a student at Magdalen College from 1968–70 studying Far-Eastern International Relations and rowed for the First Eight. He kept in regular contact with the College after he returned to Japan.
Prince Tomohito was not the first member of the Japanese Royal family to study at the College. His Uncle Prince Chichibu, brother of Emperor Hirohito, studied at Magdalen in 1925.
