The Urgent Need
For decades Magdalen has suffered from a chronic lack of library space with the worst seating ratio of any Oxford college; only one seat for every 14 readers.
The existing library, a converted Victorian schoolhouse, has many pressing problems including outdated plumbing and electrics, poor lighting and acoustics and erratic heating. There is no provision for readers with special needs.
"I have used other College library facilities as they are often better than at Magdalen. This is surprising for a College of Magdalen’s academic standing." Kaci Peringer Undergraduate, Archeology and Anthropology
