May Morning 2018
For safety reasons, the number of people allowed to ascend the Great Tower and the Founder’s Tower on May Morning, Tuesday 1 May, is strictly limited. Apart from the choristers and clerks there are fewer than thirty places available. Priority will be given to Fellows who request tickets before 2.00 pm on Wednesday 4 April 2018 and, if necessary, to those Fellows who have not previously ascended the towers on May Morning.
If there are spare places after that allocation (and please note that there may well not be), places will be allocated to any guests that Fellows may wish to bring: one guest per Fellow, in the order of the receipt of the applications. Those going up the Great Tower must be there by 5.45 am at the very latest (that is when the doors close).
Fellows and guests who do not get tickets for the Great Tower can be allocated tickets for the Founder’s Tower. These tickets will be allocated on Thursday 5 April and any remaining tickets will be given to Junior Members.
Please note that any Fellow and guest ascending the Great Tower this year should expect the possibility of being photographed by a professional photographer representing Getty Images. The photographs may subsequently appear in the public domain, but Magdalen will retain some editorial control over the resulting picture library.
If you are allocated a ticket and for whatever reason cannot make use of that ticket, please either let me know or, if is after 5.00 pm on Friday 27 April, please inform and return tickets to the Home Bursar.
Fellows should wear surplices or gowns, with academic hoods.
Breakfast is available for Fellows and their guests who have ascended the Towers; it will be served in Hall at 6.45 am.
